Dunkerque and Côte d'Opale : Winter light and Carnival

Today I want to talk to you about Dunkirk and the Opale Coast, in winter. What a strange idea to iscover the North in Winter ! But it will bring you great surprises, you can believe me. Between the sweet Carnival craziness which invades the pirats' city during over a month and the surrealistic light which covers the land facing England, you might spend the most incredible days of your life. So jump in !

Start by booking a Carnival, meaning booking a ticket for a night animated by a "bande", during which you will dance, discover the local traditions, sign the Rigodon and many more traditionnal Carnival songs. You will get a chance to taste some local beers taking part into a very extraordinary party night.

Then chose a great charming local hotel or B&B with welcoming local hosts and discover the city, taste some local specialties such as Potch'Vlesche, brown sugar stuffed waffles, couques... Walk along Malo's seaside, covered up into warm clothes en warm up into one of the numerous cafés with a hot chocolate.

You will then take the seaside road to continue your journey, until you reach Cap Gris Nez, Cap Blanc Nez. Still covered up to the tip of your nose you will walk on the trail that links the 2 capes and open your eyes to see incredibles shades of blueish greys.

To end your walk you can stop in one of the numerous cafés in one of the absolutley lovely small villages along the way. You can end up your stay by learning about chocolate making at a picker - maker chocolaterie. And if you can't resist some shopping you will have full access to one of the biggest European malls...

So ? Let's go North ?
