-Miss Smith ? Yes, Sir THE BOSS calling. Listen hun, I forgot to tell you, but at the end we decided to move THE meeting forward, yes, the one with the Chinese company, yes the one we have been working on for the past 2 months, we’ve moved it up of 3 weeks… It’s tomorrow ! (And even if you are on the phone you can imagine the same smile)

I have to tell you that I am laughing as I write those lines, voices actually resonate in my head. But women’s life can be summed up in one word : JUGGLING. Circus professionals, I am telling you. The work, the house, the hubby, the family, the friends, the children, take them in that order or another, the result will be the same : you are overwhelmed.

Then yes, you have learned how to have the eldest repeat his lesson while you are cooking with one hand AND answering emails with your other hand. Yes you can talk to your clients who call you at night while you are getting the youngest ready for bath AND still throw a towel at your husband you has been looking for one for the past 10 minutes in every single cupboard of the house, except the right one (did he move in just yesterday ?). Yes, you know how to download your webinars on your waterproof mp3 to listen to it while swimming AND trying to figure out the best way to solve your big file, and yes, you perfectly know doing both at the same time is a total lack of time as you won’t get the focus needed for each task. But you can’t help it.

I think we could call that the perfect active woman syndrome. We could also call it social guilt. This little voice in our head telling us that a woman should be perfect on every circumstance, that she should take good care of her husband and her kids… and her house… and still be available for her family… and her friends. And if she has chosen to have a carrier… Well good for her, let’s her cope with it. Her choice ! Who does she think she is ? She is not going to complain ?

You perfectly know that she has already thought of outsourcing, this overwhelmed woman… But she can already hear the voices of helpful people around her…

-Lazy bump ! (The neighbor)

-She wants a carrier and she can’t take care of her life ! (the neighbour’s friend)

-A housekeeper ? Do you think I needed a housekeeper ? (mum)

-An au pair ? Honey you would leave your children to a total stranger ? This is so shameful ! Why not abandon them while you’re at it ? (lovely sister)

-Boxed dinner ? Hun you don’t think I am eating THAT ? You could at least make an effort to cook, it’s not what you do around here during the day… (lovely husband)
